VMFA AW 242 (USMC) Black Coffee Mug

The VMFA AW 242, commonly known as the McDonnell Douglas AV-8B Harrier II, is a dual-role, multi-mission, single-seat, short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) jet aircraft. It was primarily used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC), serving as both an attack aircraft and a fighter. The VMFA AW 242 is unique for its ability to perform vertical flight by using the lift generated from its own engine exhaust, a feature known as the Vectored Thrust Propulsion system. This aircraft entered service in 1985, replacing the earlier AV-8A Harrier, and was retired by the USMC in 2016, being succeeded by the F-35B Lightning II. The VMFA AW 242 saw action in various military operations, including Operation Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom.
