Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Per bend embattled Azure and Or, with a sheaf of wheat of the same in chief, and an eight-pointed mullet pierced Sable in base. Attached below the shield is a gold scroll inscribed "THE PRAIRIE SENTINELS" in blue letters.

Symbolism

Yellow traditionally signifies Cavalry. The blue is adapted from the Kansas State Flag. The spur rowel represents the unit's designation and reflects the diverse mission and capabilities of Cavalry. The sheaf of wheat on the blue background symbolizes the unit's home in Kansas, known as the "breadbasket of the United States." The embattled division of the shield signifies defense and the role of a National Guard unit.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on June 24, 1981.
