Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Or, a mullet of eight points pierced Sable, enfiled by two sabers in saltire Gules, with a chief paly of six Sable and Or, and a bend counterchanged. Below the shield is a black scroll inscribed with "FIRST TO THE FRONT" in gold letters.

Symbolism

Yellow is traditionally associated with Cavalry. The black and yellow pattern on the chief is adapted from the Calvert Coat of Arms, which is featured on the Maryland State Flag, signifying the unit’s affiliation with the Maryland Army National Guard. The crossed sabers and spur rowel symbolize the strength and multifaceted capabilities of a Cavalry unit.

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on November 4, 1981.
