The 178th Infantry Regiment is a unit within the United States Army. Established during World War I on July 30, 1918, it was initially organized as part of the National Army. The regiment saw action in the Battle of Saint-Mihiel and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive before being demobilized postwar. Reactivated in 1947 as part of the Organized Reserve Corps, the 178th Infantry Regiment has since been called to active duty several times, participating in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. In recent years, it has primarily served in a training capacity, providing readiness for combat operations as needed. The regiment's lineage is unique in that it is linked with three other infantry regiments: the 194th Infantry Regiment, the 345th Infantry Regiment, and the 362nd Infantry Regiment, all of which have shared honors and distinctions throughout their history. The 178th Infantry Regiment is currently headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, within the Texas Army National Guard.
