Description/Blazon
A shield blazoned: Azure, a fess wavy, with a mullet in chief, both in Argent. Below the shield, a silver scroll is inscribed with "FOR FREEDOM" in blue letters.

Symbolism
The regiment, organized at Fort Sam Houston in 1916, served along the Rio Grande during its early years. The blue shield represents the Infantry, with the wavy fess symbolizing the Rio Grande and the lone star symbolizing Texas.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 January 1941.
