The 96th Test Wing is a United States Air Force unit responsible for conducting testing and evaluation of weapon systems and associated concepts to ensure their effectiveness and suitability for combat operations. Based at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida, the wing reports to both the Air Force Materiel Command and the Air Combat Command. The 96th Test Wing's mission includes operational testing, weapons system test and evaluation, test and evaluation support, and research and development. It operates under the 41st Space Test Squadron and has been instrumental in the development of numerous air-launched weapons systems, such as the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM) and the Small Diameter Bomb II (SDB-II).
