The Flag of Volgograd, Russia, is a rectangular bicolor flag consisting of two horizontal fields. The top field is white, representing peace, while the bottom field is azure blue, symbolizing the sky and the river Volga. In the center of the azure field is a red square bearing the emblem of the city, which includes a gold-outlined hammer and sickle surmounted by five multi-pointed golden stars, representing worker and peasant solidarity as well as the five constituent regions of the Stalingrad Oblast. This flag was officially adopted on November 27, 1958. The design of the Volgograd flag reflects both its historical significance as the site of the Battle of Stalingrad and its contemporary status as a major Russian city.
