Kagnew Station, also known as Kagnew Communications Complex, was a significant U.S. Army communication facility located in Asmara, Eritrea, during the Cold War era. Established in 1951, its primary purpose was to monitor and intercept Soviet communications in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, providing intelligence to the United States and its allies. The station operated until 1977 when it was closed following the departure of U.S. military personnel from Eritrea. Kagnew Station was a critical component of the global communication network for the U.S. Army Signal Corps, playing an essential role in maintaining global security during this period.
