STS 128 (NASA) The Space Shuttle Mission STS-128 was a space flight conducted by NASA, launched on August 28, 2009, and marked the 32nd visit to the International Space Station (ISS). The primary objectives of this mission were cargo transport and ISS crew rotation. The launch took place from Kennedy Space Center in Florida using Space Shuttle Discovery as the spacecraft. The mission crew consisted of six astronauts, led by Christopher Ferguson as commander. During their 13-day journey, they delivered several tons of equipment and supplies to the ISS, including a storage module, a laboratory for biology research, and a system to recycle urine and condensation into drinking water. STS-128 also included five spacewalks to perform maintenance and install various components on the ISS. Notably, one of these spacewalks involved the installation of a new spare power channel for one of the station's solar arrays. Additionally, the crew assisted with several scientific experiments in various fields such as biology, physics, and material science. Upon completion, Discovery returned safely to Earth on September 11, 2009, landing at Kennedy Space Center's Shuttle Landing Facility. The mission marked an important milestone in the ongoing operation of the International Space Station and contributed significantly to its expansion and scientific research capabilities.
