The VIII Corps is a corps of the United States Army. It was first activated during World War I on August 18, 1917, at Camp Sherman, Ohio. The corps played significant roles in both World War I and II, particularly in the campaigns of Normandy and Northern France in World War II. In its post-World War II history, the VIII Corps has been active during the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and Operation Enduring Freedom. It is currently part of the United States Army Pacific (USARPAC) command and is headquartered at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. The VIII Corps serves as a combined-arms formation, capable of operating independently or in conjunction with other corps. Its primary mission is to conduct full-spectrum military operations across the full range of military operations, from peacekeeping and humanitarian assistance missions to large-scale conflict.
