The XI Corps (United States Army) is a corps-level tactical formation of the U.S. Army. It was first activated during World War I and saw service in various conflicts since then, including World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. In its most recent reorganization, the XI Corps was deactivated on June 16, 2004, as part of the U.S. Army's transition from a cold war era force to an agile, adaptive force capable of responding to a range of contingencies. The XI Corps, like other corps-level formations, serves as a tactical maneuver unit, coordinating and directing multiple divisions in large-scale operations. Despite its deactivation, the legacy of the XI Corps continues to play a significant role in the development of U.S. Army tactics and strategies.
