1 Special Forces (U.S. Army)
The 1st Special Forces Regiment, commonly known as "1 Special Forces" or "Green Berets," is a special operations force within the United States Army. Established in 1952, it was initially created to conduct unconventional warfare and guerrilla warfare behind enemy lines during the Cold War era. The Green Berets are trained for missions that include direct action, counter-terrorism, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, and psychological operations. They often work alongside indigenous forces in various countries to train and support them. Their motto is "De Oppresso Liber," Latin for "To Free the Oppressed." The 1st Special Forces Regiment operates under the U.S. Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).
