The 37th Infantry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army. It was constituted on July 28, 1916, and organized on March 4, 1917, from National Guard units in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Ohio, and West Virginia. The regiment served with distinction in World War I, earning the Presidential Unit Citation for its actions during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive. In the interwar period, the 37th Infantry Regiment was a part of the Illinois National Guard. During World War II, it took part in the Allied invasion of Normandy as well as the liberation of France and the Battle of the Bulge. Post-World War II, the regiment has been involved in various conflicts, including the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan. The 37th Infantry Regiment is currently part of the 1st Infantry Division, also known as the "Big Red One". Its lineage includes several notable units such as the 150th Infantry, 168th Infantry, and 222nd Infantry. The regiment's emblem features a red lion on a yellow field, symbolizing courage and valor in combat.
