The 40th Infantry Regiment is a unit of the United States Army, tracing its history back to the Arizona National Guard before World War I. It was first activated as part of the 8th Division in 1917 and has since seen service in significant conflicts such as World War II, the Korean War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Originally known for its mountain warfare expertise, it gained prominence during the Korean War, earning the nickname "Sun Devils" from the sun emblem on their shoulder patches. The regiment is currently part of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and is headquartered at Fort Carson, Colorado. Throughout its history, the 40th Infantry Regiment has demonstrated courage, adaptability, and a strong esprit de corps in the service of the U.S. Army.
