Brandy Station refers to a small unincorporated community in Culpeper County, Virginia, United States, notable for being the site of one of the largest cavalry battles of the American Civil War on June 9, 1863. This event occurred during the Gettysburg Campaign and was fought between Union and Confederate forces under the leadership of Gen. John Henry Hobart Ward (US). Brandy Station is considered the only significant battle of the Civil War to be fought solely between cavalry units, and it played a crucial role in strategic decision-making for both sides. Gen. John Henry Hobart Ward commanded a division during this battle, which was later renamed as the 1st U.S. Cavalry Division. The location is now preserved as part of the American Civil War Battlefield Park.
