Established in 1957, it initially operated the A-4 Skyhawk and later transitioned to the F/A-18 Hornet. The Jolly Rogers are named after the pirate flag known as the 'Jolly Roger,' a tradition dating back to their time as an A-6 Intruder squadron. The squadron has seen significant service in various conflicts, including the Vietnam War, Gulf War, and ongoing operations in the Middle East. Their call sign, "Bandits," is used in radio communications during missions. The VFA 103 Jolly Rogers continues to contribute to naval aviation as a part of Carrier Air Wing 7.
