Description/Blazon:

A buffalo statant Proper on a heraldic wreath Or and Sable. Below, on a scroll of the second, fimbriated of the first, is the motto "READY AND FORWARD" in gold letters.

Symbolism:

Black and gold are the traditional regimental colors. The buffalo, an emblem of the regiment for many years, originates from the term "Buffalo soldiers," used by Native Americans to refer to colored regiments. The distinctive unit insignia is worn in pairs.

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved on March 13, 1922. It was amended on December 6, 1923, to update the description and method of wear. On March 19, 1951, the insignia was redesignated for the 510th Tank Battalion. It was redesignated for the 10th Cavalry on May 12, 1959.
