Description/Blazon:

A shield blazoned: Azure, with three chevronels interlaced Or, and on a chief Or, a falcon close and belled Proper. Below the shield is a tripartite scroll inscribed "TO THE" on the left and "UTMOST" on the right in black letters.

Symbolism:

The colors blue and gold, used in regimental athletic uniforms and other insignia, have heraldic significance. The falcon "close and belled" represents readiness for service while at rest, embodying the characteristics of a National Guard Regiment. The falcon’s speed, keen sight, and vigorous nature symbolize the regiment’s attributes. The three chevronels signify the three periods of Federal service between 1898 and 1919.

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 101st Cavalry Regiment on January 3, 1928. It was redesignated for the 101st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron on July 19, 1944. On September 17, 1951, it was redesignated for the 101st Armored Cavalry Regiment, and on April 19, 1962, for the 101st Armor Regiment. The insignia was further redesignated for the 101st Cavalry Regiment and amended to include the motto on October 31, 1967.
