Description

A shield blazoned: Gules, a winged shell between four electric flashes above a grid issuing from the base Or. Attached below and to the sides of the shield is a gold scroll inscribed "DEO FAVENTE" in red letters.

Symbolism

The red and yellow colors represent Artillery. The winged shell signifies antiaircraft firepower, while the grid and electric flashes symbolize radar control for automatic weapons. The motto translates to "With God's Favor."

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 138th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion on April 1, 1952. It was rescinded on May 11, 1960, and later reinstated and redesignated for the 238th Cavalry Regiment on August 5, 1963.
