Description/Blazon
It features a scarlet background with a horizontally centered green stripe.
Symbolism
The scarlet stripe commemorates the Fourth Infantry's distinguished service in the Battle of Monterey during the Mexican War, where the Band's scarlet piping was authorized. This stripe honors that historic achievement. Green, the dominant color in the Regiment's coat of arms, also symbolizes the Regiment's service in the Mexican War.
Background
The metal and enamel distinctive unit insignia was originally approved on 21 December 1987. It was amended on 14 September 1989 to revise the description and clarify the symbolism.
