The 65th Infantry Regiment, part of the United States Army, is a historical military unit with rich heritage and significance. Established on April 10, 1917, during World War I, the regiment was one of six organized regiments of the Puerto Rico National Guard (PRNG). The 65th Infantry Regiment played a crucial role in numerous battles throughout its history, including the Philippine-American War and World War II, where it earned two Presidential Unit Citations. Post-World War II, the unit saw service during the Korean War, the Cold War era, and has participated in various peacekeeping missions. Known as the "Borinqueneers," a term derived from Borikén (the original Taíno name for Puerto Rico), the 65th Infantry Regiment reflects the courage, resilience, and patriotism of its Puerto Rican soldiers. The regiment was deactivated in 1989 but was reorganized as part of the U.S. Army Reserve in 2016, continuing to uphold the proud legacy of its storied history.
