The 69th New York Infantry Regiment is a historic military unit that served under the United States Army during the American Civil War. Formed in 1862, it was one of the many regiments raised by the Union during this period and saw action in significant battles such as Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, Cold Harbor, and Petersburg. Known colloquially as "The Fighting 69th" due to its combat effectiveness, the regiment was eventually mustered out of service in July 1865, following the Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House. The 69th New York Infantry Regiment's legacy endures as a notable chapter in U.S. military history and the American Civil War.
