The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a relief program established by President Franklin D. Roosevelt as part of the New Deal during the Great Depression in the United States, starting in 1933. It primarily focused on the conservation and development of natural resources in rural areas of the country while providing employment opportunities for unmarried men aged 18 to 25. The CCC was part of a larger governmental effort to combat unemployment and poverty, as well as to improve the environment and infrastructure of national parks, forests, and public lands. Approximately three million young men served in the CCC over its nine-year existence before it was deactivated in 1942 due to World War II. Today, the legacy of the CCC continues to be celebrated for its significant contributions to conservation efforts, infrastructure development, and job creation during a critical period in American history.
