The United States Army Iceland Defense Force (USAEIDF) is a military unit that forms part of the United States Army Europe (USAREUR). Established to maintain and enhance Iceland's defense capabilities, the USAEIDF operates under a unique bilateral agreement between the U.S. and Iceland, which dates back to 1951 following World War II. The primary mission of this unit is to provide a quick-reaction force for collective defense, ensuring the security of NATO's northern flank while upholding longstanding U.S.-Iceland cooperation. Despite being an integral part of the U.S. Army, the USAEIDF does not participate in overseas contingencies unless authorized by both U.S. and Icelandic governments. The force is primarily stationed at Camp Button in Keflavik, Iceland.
