The 173rd Fighter Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force (USAF) that operates under the Air Combat Command (ACC). Based primarily at Fort Smith Regional Airport in Arkansas, it also has detachments at other locations such as Jacksonville International Airport in Florida and Dannelly Field in Alabama. The 173rd Fighter Wing's primary mission is to ensure air superiority through the operation of fighter aircraft, primarily the F-16 Fighting Falcon. Additionally, the wing provides combat air patrols, aerospace control, close air support, and air defense for civil authorities when called upon. Its history dates back to 1941, serving both in World War II and the Korean War. Today, it is part of the Arkansas Air National Guard.
