Description/Blazon

A shield blazoned: Azure, three Indian arrows arranged pyramid-wise in Argent. Above the shield, a wreath of Argent and Azure supports an Indian's head adorned with a war bonnet, all depicted Proper. A silver scroll is attached below and to the sides of the shield, inscribed with "TANAP NANAIYA KIA ALHTAIYAHA" in blue letters.

Symbolism

The blue shield signifies the unit's original designation as Infantry. The arrows represent Oklahoma's Native American heritage. The motto is in the Choctaw language and translates to "Ready In War Or Peace."

Background

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 180th Infantry Regiment on October 30, 1925. It was amended to revise the symbolism on May 10, 1979, and later redesignated for the 180th Cavalry Regiment, with the description and symbolism updated, effective December 1, 2008.
