The 187th Fighter Wing (USAF) is a unit of the United States Air Force (USAF) located at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, Michigan. This wing primarily operates the F-22 Raptor, a highly advanced and versatile fifth-generation multirole fighter aircraft. The 187th Fighter Wing's mission includes air defense of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) sector, as well as providing combat-ready forces for worldwide deployment in support of USAF objectives. The wing is part of the Air Combat Command and the Michigan Air National Guard. It was established on August 31, 1946, making it one of the oldest active wings within the USAF. Throughout its history, the 187th Fighter Wing has participated in various operations, such as Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The 187th Fighter Wing consists of approximately 1,200 Airmen and civilian personnel, with key functions including flying, maintenance, mission support, and medical groups.
