The 317th Infantry Regiment is a U.S. Army infantry regiment that has seen service in various conflicts throughout its history. It was originally constituted on February 28, 1917, and was organized at Camp Meade, Maryland, during World War I. Post-World War I, it was demobilized, but reorganized in the Army of the United States on October 1, 1933. The regiment has a rich history, participating in major conflicts such as the Invasion of Normandy during World War II and the Korean War. Notably, it earned the Distinguished Unit Citation for its actions in the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Argonne Forest. In the Korean War, the 317th Infantry Regiment was part of the 87th Infantry Division, fighting in battles such as the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. The regiment is currently under the command of the U.S. Army's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. It is a part of the U.S. Army's active duty force and continues to uphold its tradition of service and valor in the defense of the United States.
