The 47th Fighter Squadron is a tactical flying unit within the United States Air Force (USAF). Originally formed during World War I, it has seen service in various conflicts throughout its history. The squadron was initially equipped with biplanes and later transitioned to monoplanes, becoming one of the first units to operate the P-51 Mustang fighter aircraft during World War II. Post-World War II, the 47th Fighter Squadron was involved in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Operation Desert Storm. Currently, it operates the F-22 Raptor, a fifth-generation multirole fighter aircraft. The squadron is stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, under the 57th Adversary Tactics Group, responsible for providing adversary support to USAF training exercises. The 47th Fighter Squadron's lineage and honors include the Distinguished Unit Citations awarded during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Its motto is "Aggressor Over All," reflecting its role as an adversary unit that provides realistic enemy emulation for USAF fighter pilots during training missions.
