Description/Blazon

A silhouetted right cylinder, vertically divided blue and red within a yellow border. A yellow ray extends from the lower border and converges in the upper corners. Overall, a black Morion with yellow delineation is centered on the design.

Symbolism

The cylinder shape is distinctive to Brigade insignias. Yellow represents Armor, while blue and red signify the Brigade's Infantry and Artillery components. The Morion, a type of helmet adapted from the Moors by Spain, symbolizes the Spanish explorers of Florida.

Background

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 53d Armored Brigade on 4 December 1964 and redesignated for the 53rd Infantry Brigade on 25 July 1968.
