The Civil Ensign of Albania from 1945 to 1992 was the national flag used by the People's Socialist Republic of Albania during this period. The design consisted of three equal horizontal bands of red, black, and red, with a white eagle holding an olive branch in its right talon and a cogged wheel in its left talon centered on the black band. The red fields represented the people's struggle for liberation, while the black symbolized the dark period of Ottoman domination. The white eagle and the cogged wheel were emblems of power and progress. The Civil Ensign of Albania was replaced in 1992 by the current flag of Albania following the end of socialism in the country.
