The Coat of Arms of Upper Volta, used from 1967 to 1984, symbolically represented the newly independent nation. The shield was divided into four quadrants, each representing one of the country's principal regions: Haut-Volta, Boucle du Mouhoun, Sud-Ouest, and Sud-Est. The center of the shield displayed a golden sun, symbolizing unity, progress, and the promise of prosperity for the nation. Above the shield was a white scroll bearing the country's name in black, "Upper Volta." This emblem was significant during a period marked by political evolution, as Upper Volta changed its name to Burkina Faso in 1984, adopting a new coat of arms to reflect its redefined national identity.
