Soyuz TMA-16M (Soyuz Space Programme) The Soyuz TMA-16M was a manned spaceflight mission to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Russian Federation's Soyuz programme. Launched on December 21, 2015, it marked the 124th flight of a Soyuz spacecraft and carried three crew members: Commander Sergey Prokopyev (Roscosmos), Flight Engineer Andrey Borisenko (Roscosmos), and Flight Engineer Alexander Misurkin (Roscosmos). This mission was significant as it marked the return to manned spaceflight operations for Roscosmos following a pause due to the loss of Soyuz TMA-M spacecraft during launch preparations in October 2014. The spacecraft docked with the ISS on December 23, 2015, and returned to Earth safely on June 2, 2016, landing in Kazakhstan. The Soyuz TMA-16M mission was part of a long-standing partnership between Roscosmos and NASA for maintaining the occupancy of the ISS.
