STS 105, also known as Mission Discovery, was a space shuttle mission launched by NASA on September 12, 2001. It marked the 105th flight of the Space Transportation System program and the 28th flight of the reusable orbiter Atlantis. The primary objective of STS-105 was to deliver the Expedition Three crew to the International Space Station (ISS) and to return the Expedition Two crew back to Earth. This mission served as a key step in the assembly of the ISS, marking the beginning of a continuous human presence aboard the station. The expedition crew members spent approximately two months on the ISS before returning to Earth safely on September 29, 2001.
