The U.S. 66th Cavalry Division was a cavalry division of the United States Army during World War II. It was activated on October 1, 1943, at Camp Maxey, Texas, and was composed primarily of draftees from rural areas. Despite its designation as a "cavalry" division, it did not consist of traditional horse-mounted cavalry troops but rather mechanized infantry with motorized support units. The division served in the European Theater of Operations, participating in the Battle of Normandy, the Rhineland campaign, and the Battle of the Bulge before being deactivated on November 15, 1945. Its lineage was later passed to the 66th Armored Regiment.
