VMFA 251 - Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 251 (USMC) VMFA 251, also known as the "Sherman's Scions," is a U.S. Marine Corps aviation squadron specializing in fighter attack operations. The squadron was established on November 15, 1943, during World War II and has since served in numerous conflicts, including the Korean War, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and Operation Enduring Freedom. Throughout its history, VMFA 251 has operated various aircraft such as the F4 Phantom II, A-6 Intruder, and currently the F/A-18 Hornet. The squadron is based at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort in South Carolina, serving under the command of Marine Aircraft Group 29 (MAG-29). VMFA 251's mission is to provide rapid and effective airpower projection in support of ground forces. The squadron's heritage is deeply rooted in combat readiness, teamwork, and professionalism, embodying the spirit of its namesake, Colonel Louis H. Sherman, for whom it was named posthumously.
