The 12th Infantry Regiment is a unit within the United States Army. Originally established in 1869 during the American Indian Wars, it has since seen service in numerous conflicts including the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. Notably, it was the first U.S. Army unit to land on Omaha Beach during the D-Day invasion in Normandy, France. The regiment is currently part of the 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. It is known for its motto "First to Fight" and its symbol, the panther. The 12th Infantry Regiment's history reflects its role as a leading force in various U.S. military operations throughout the 19th and 20th centuries.
