Originally formed as the 4th Massachusetts Infantry, it was redesignated the 142nd Infantry in 1901. The regiment is currently organized under the Minnesota Army National Guard and is part of the 34th Red Bull Infantry Division. Throughout its history, the 142nd Infantry Regiment has participated in several significant military operations, including World War I, World War II, and the Korean War.
