The 17th New York Battery Artillery Depot, also known as Camp Barry, was a Union Army training camp established during the American Civil War, located near Washington, D.C. Named after General John G. Barry, the camp served as a key site for the training and outfitting of artillery units from the State of New York. The camp operated between 1861 and 1862, contributing significantly to the Union's war effort by supplying well-trained artillery personnel. Notable events at Camp Barry include the draft riots of July 1863, when protesters targeted the camp in their unrest against conscription. Today, the site of Camp Barry is a part of the Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, an active United States Air Force installation.
