The 1st Infantry Regiment, often known as the "Big Red One," is a line infantry unit within the United States Army. Established on June 7, 1917, it was one of the first American regiments organized for service during World War I. Over the years, the 1st Infantry has participated in significant military campaigns such as the Invasion of Normandy (D-Day), the Korean War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom among others. The regiment is headquartered at Fort Riley, Kansas, and its motto is "Loyalty" (Fidelis). It falls under the U.S. Army's First Infantry Division.
