The "33rd New York Infantry 009" refers to a military unit that served during the U.S. Civil War. Also known as the "New York State Militia," this infantry regiment was raised in response to President Abraham Lincoln's call for volunteers in 1862. The unit, which consisted of ten companies, saw action in several significant battles including Gettysburg and the Wilderness Campaign. It contributed to the Union Army's efforts towards the preservation of the United States and the eventual end of slavery. After the war, the 33rd New York Infantry was mustered out of service in August 1865.
