The 33rd New York Infantry Regiment was a military unit raised primarily from the New York City area for service during the American Civil War. Also known as the "New York Wayside Infantry," it was part of the Union Army and served in various campaigns, including Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and Spotsylvania Court House. The regiment was involved in numerous battles, losing over 250 men during its service and mustering out in June 1864 due to the term of enlistment expiring for many soldiers. Despite its losses, the 33rd New York Infantry played a significant role in several key engagements, contributing to the ultimate Union victory in the Civil War.
