The 36th Wing is a unit of the United States Air Force, falling under the operational command of Air Combat Command. Based at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, it operates as one of only two Air Education and Training Commands (AETC) F-15E Strike Eagle instructor wings. The 36th Wing is responsible for training combat-ready pilots, weapon systems officers, and maintenance personnel for the U.S. Air Force. Its mission encompasses air-to-air, air-to-ground, and close-air support operations using the F-15E Strike Eagle, alongside various other aircraft types. The wing's history dates back to 1942, when it was first activated as the 36th Bombardment Group. Throughout its existence, the 36th Wing has participated in several significant conflicts, including World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Operation Desert Storm, and more recently, the Global War on Terrorism.
