Description/Blazon:

On a shield divided diagonally from upper left to lower right, the upper portion is red and the lower portion is yellow. Centered vertically is a white gauntleted fist grasping a lightning bolt, yellow above and red below.

Symbolism:

The diagonal partition represents the division of the Korean Peninsula by the DMZ. The gauntlet signifies the Brigade's protective role, while the lightning bolt symbolizes rapid retaliation against hostile air attacks. Red and yellow are the traditional colors for Air Defense Artillery.

Background:

The shoulder sleeve insignia was originally approved for the 38th Artillery Brigade on June 2, 1961. It was redesignated for the 38th Air Defense Artillery Brigade on April 3, 1972.
