Description/Blazon:

A sheaf of twelve arrows argent positioned behind a garb pierced by a fishhook fesswise, hook to sinister and base, Or. Attached below and to the sides of the device is a red scroll inscribed "AUDACIA" in gold letters.

Symbolism:

The garb and fishhook commemorate the Regiment's participation in the Battle of Gettysburg, where the wheat field formed the shape of the Federal battle line. The twelve arrows represent the Regiment's twelve Indian battles. The motto translates to "By Daring Deeds."

Background:

The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 4th Coast Artillery Regiment on August 20, 1928. It was redesignated for the 4th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion on March 12, 1956, and cancelled on April 21, 1959. The insignia was restored and authorized for the 4th Air Defense Artillery effective September 1, 1971.
