The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of the Inspector General (OIG) is an independent, internal watchdog agency within the U.S. Department of Justice. Its primary role is to detect and prevent fraud, waste, abuse, and misconduct within the DOJ. This includes investigating allegations against federal law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and other personnel, as well as auditing department programs and operations. The OIG also reviews the DOJ's compliance with various laws, regulations, and policies. Its findings are submitted to the Attorney General and relevant congressional committees for appropriate action. The office is led by an inspector general who is appointed by the President of the United States.
