Grand Royal Coat of Arms of France & Navarre The Grand Royal Coat of Arms of France and Navarre is a historical emblem that symbolically represents the two kingdoms joined under one rule. The shield features the Fleur-de-lis, a stylized lily, which has been a traditional French symbol since the 10th century. In this particular design, there are three fleurs-de-lis, arranged in two vertical rows, superimposed upon each other and surrounded by a chain of alternate white and red bezants (circular gold coins). The shield is topped with a royal crown, known as the Royal Crown of France or the Fleur-de-lis Crown. At the bottom, there is a scroll bearing the motto 'Dieu et mon droit', meaning 'God and my right'. This coat of arms was used during the personal union of France and Navarre from 1589 to 1620.
