The Obverse of the Coat of Arms of Chile, used from 1812 to 1814, represents a significant historical emblem in Chilean heraldry. This design features a shield divided into four quarters. The first quarter displays a lion passant guardant on a red background, symbolizing the Kingdom of Spain. The second and third quarters represent the Mapuche indigenous people with a warrior holding an arma (spear) and a woman holding a maqui berry branch, respectively, both on a white field. The fourth quarter features three stars representing the provinces of Concepción, Chillán, and Santiago. Above the shield, there is a ribbon bearing the motto "Libertad y Orden" (Freedom and Order). This design reflects the struggle for independence and the unique blend of Spanish and indigenous influences in early Chilean history.
