The Ordnance Missile Command (OMC) was a functional command of the United States Army, established on July 1, 1964. It was responsible for overseeing the development, production, and maintenance of all types of missiles used by the U.S. Army. The OMC's duties included research and development, engineering design, production, quality control, storage, and repair of Army missile systems. The command also coordinated with other branches of the military, the Department of Defense, and various contractors to ensure the effective deployment of these missiles in operational environments. The OMC operated under the Army Materiel Command (AMC) until it was merged with the AMC's Missile Command in 1972, forming the current U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command/Army Forces Strategic Command (USASMDC/ARSTRAT). The Ordnance Missile Command played a crucial role in shaping the U.S. Army's missile capabilities during the Cold War era and beyond.
