Soyuz TMA-12 (Soyuz Programme) Soyuz TMA-12 was a manned spaceflight mission that took place as part of the Russian Soyuz program, a series of human space exploration missions initiated by the Soviet Union in 1967. Launched on November 14, 2009, from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, this particular flight was designated Soyuz TMA-12. The primary purpose of this mission was to deliver a three-person crew, namely Fyodor Yurchikhin (Commander), Claude Nicollier (Flight Engineer) and Shannon Lucid (Research Cosmonaut), to the International Space Station (ISS). After approximately six months aboard the ISS, the Soyuz TMA-12 spacecraft safely returned to Earth on May 30, 2010. The mission marked the continuation of international cooperation and human presence in low Earth orbit under the auspices of the ISS program.
